Networking961 Opens GEW Lebanon 2014
For the second consecutive year, BADER who is officially hosting Global Entrepreneurship Week Lebanon 2014, officially opened the week with the annual flagship networking party gathering attendees from all across Lebanon’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The party hosted on November 18 at Concrete1994, gathered over 400 attendees from investors, startup enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and support organizations for an evening of networking.
Networking961 was held this year in its fifth edition, with the active participation of Speed, Lebanon’s upcoming accelerator, Berytech, Middle East Venture Partners and Wamda. Also in line, was Zoomaal, the leading regional crowdfunding platform, and community partner Etihad Airways. BADER aims at having key players of the entrepreneurial scene in Lebanon present at Networking961 to ensure an optimal networking opportunity for everyone participating. Middle East Venture Partners, leading regional venture capital fund, and Wamda and Berytech, high impact supporters of Lebanese entrepreneurship, were once again a strong addition to the networking party allowing attendees a chance to learn more about their platforms and services.
Announcement of BADER Startup Cup Winners
BADER took the opportunity to announce the winners of BADER Startup Cup, a unique business model competition designed over the course of six months to help entrepreneurs with ideas and early stage startups accelerate their ventures into the market. Startup Cup also being a featured event of Global Entrepreneurship Week.
Similar to last year, BADER received hundreds of applications upon the announcement of the second edition of the competition, all local projects, of which only 12 were admitted into the program. At the very beginning, each startup is assigned a coach to offer mentorship throughout the process and assisting them in reaching their deliverables. The winners for this year were:
First Place Winner: Energy24
Energy24 introduced a new technology in Lebanon: “Energy Storage Technology” or “ESS” allowing the storage of large amounts of electric energy into a new type of battery to power residential, commercial or industrial loads during long power outages. By storing the electricity produced by EDL instead of burning diesel, it is possible to achieve up to 75% savings while avoiding the pollution and the unstable power supply of generators.
Second Place Winner: Kitchen Confidential
Kitchen Confidential is a Gourmet catering company that is transforming “Fast Food”, pastries and desserts into their healthy but tasty version. The end products are made with the finest organic and natural ingredients, and free of: Gluten, Refined sugar, GMOs, Trans-fat, Aspartame, Additives, Preservatives, Antibiotics, Taste enhancers (MSG, etc…), Soy and Oat. The products can be customizable to meet the needs of clients with intolerance to specific ingredients.
Third Place Winner: Ki
Ki is a revolutionary solution that eliminates the need for usernames and passwords. Their USB device will securely log you into all of your accounts. You no longer have to remember your usernames and passwords, Ki will do it for you. By creating this product, and making it an “out of the box” readily available to use by all, Ki is paving the way for a fast, efficient and secure automated user identification and login experience.
The three winning startups were awarded over LBP 100,00,000 in cash and in-kind prizes. Some of the prizes included a free hot desk at Coworking+961 for 3 months, Amideast – Lebanon scholarships for the winning teams to attend the Start/Grow My Business Workshop, and a 1-year membership at Kompass Lebanon worth of $6,000, the leading business-to-business database, as well as a premium listing of the candidate’s company on Kompass. The holding also offered preferred fees with Masri Etudes et Expertises (part of Masri Holding) on market surveys, feasibility studies and valuations and preferred fees on Kompass worldwide memberships and advertising packages.
On Global Entrepreneurship Week Lebanon 2014
The celebration, moreover, served as a platform to launch the 2014 Global Entrepreneurship Week in Lebanon, an annual event that celebrates entrepreneurship worldwide and witnesses the participations of 150 countries. The week includes 20 thousands events bringing together millions of entrepreneurs and innovators from around the world to promote entrepreneurship by building businesses that drive economic growth and help generate new job opportunities.
As the official host of the Global Entrepreneurship Week in Lebanon for 2014, Bader collaborated with more than 60 partner organizations and 7 media partners covering this year’s Entrepreneurship Week and organizing more than 40 entrepreneurial events from the 17th to the 23rd of November. The diverse activities of this year’s Entrepreneurial Week in Lebanon extends outside Beirut to the North, Saida and Zahle and also stretches out till the end of November.
